In a proactive move to enhance online safety for young people, YouTube has begun implementing a new artificial intelligence-powered system designed to identify and protect children who are misrepresenting their age on the platform. The new technology, a form of machine learning, is being rolled out in the United States and other markets in response to increasing regulatory scrutiny and public pressure to shield minors from content intended for adults.

How the Age-Estimation AI Works
The AI system is designed to infer a user's age based on a variety of data signals, rather than solely relying on the self-reported birthday in their account. This technology analyzes factors such as:
