GovAI was founded to help humanity navigate the transition to a world with advanced AI by producing rigorous research and fostering talent. Researchers publish in top venues like Science and Nature, and work with decision-makers in government, industry, and civil society. Alumni hold influential roles at DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic, CSET, RAND, Oxford, and Cambridge. This three-month fellowship launches or accelerates careers in AI governance and policy. Fellows conduct independent research on a chosen topic with mentorship from experts, participate in Q&A/seminar series for field understanding, and build connections. The first two weeks involve exploring AI governance and proposing research; output could be a report, paper, article, op-ed, or blog. Includes workshops, peer feedback, social events, and career discussions. Responsibilities: conduct research with supervisor meetings; produce output; attend events/seminars; network. Requirements: Interest in AI governance careers; broad backgrounds (government, academia, industry, civil society); typically graduate study/research/policy experience; expertise in public policy, political science, computer science, economics, biosecurity, cybersecurity, China studies, risk management; strong reasoning/writing; judgement for research directions; team fit with openness/intellectual honesty. No strict degrees; senior candidates may get accommodations.
