Software Engineer - Multimodal: xAI

xAI, a company with the mission to create AI systems that can accurately understand the universe and aid humanity's pursuit of knowledge, is hiring a Software Engineer for its Multimodal team. The team is focused on creating magical AI experiences beyond text, enabling the understanding and generation of content across various modalities like images, video, and audio.

This role is for an experienced data and infrastructure engineer who will develop and optimize the data pipelines for these multimodal datasets. You will be joining a small, highly motivated team with a flat organizational structure where all employees are expected to be hands-on and contribute directly to the company's mission.

Key Responsibilities (Focus):
Build tools to assist in the acquisition of large-scale multimedia data.

Develop petabyte-scale, high-throughput data processing systems for multimodal data (text, images, videos, audio).

Create high-throughput and low-latency data decoding and loading pipelines to support efficient, large-scale training of multimodal models.

Build visualization and management tools for all categories of in-house datasets.

Ideal Experience & Qualifications:
Expert in developing software for large-scale distributed machine learning systems.

Expert in Spark, GPUs, Kubernetes, and JAX (or PyTorch).

Experienced in standard software engineering best practices (CI/CD), with a focus on code quality, testing, and performance.

Tech Stack:
Python, JAX, Rust, Spark, CUDA

Interview Process:

A 15-minute initial phone interview.

Three one-on-one technical/coding interviews.

A final "Meet the Team" presentation of your past work and vision.
