Senior Lead AI Engineer: Capital One

Capital One is seeking a Senior Lead AI Engineer to join its Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team, which is at the center of bringing the company's vision for responsible and reliable AI to life. For years, Capital One has been an industry leader in using machine learning to create real-time, personalized customer experiences and is positioned at the forefront of enterprises leveraging AI.

In this role, you will partner with a cross-functional team of engineers, research scientists, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products that change how associates work and how customers interact with Capital One. You will help bring the transformative power of emerging AI capabilities to reimagine banking for good.

Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, and guardrails.

Leverage a broad stack of Open Source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Hugging Face, VectorDBs, PyTorch, Spark, and Kubeflow.

Invent and introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve the performance, scalability, and cost of large-scale production AI systems.

Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One.

Lead projects from start to finish, with strong documentation and an adept understanding of both software and machine learning lifecycles.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI plus at least 6 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms, OR a Master's degree plus at least 4 years of experience.

At least 6 years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.

Preferred Qualifications:
7+ years of experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).

Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor an engineering team and influence cross-functional stakeholders.

Expertise with Apache Spark for distributed data processing.

Experience developing specific AI technologies (e.g., LLM Inference, Similarity Search, VectorDBs, Guardrails).

A passion for staying abreast of the latest AI research and applying novel techniques in production.
