Salary: $211,600 - $317,000 per year. This role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
This role is with Schwab’s AI Strategy & Transformation team (AI.x), the central hub for Artificial Intelligence at the company. The team integrates product, engineering, strategy, and risk to set the enterprise AI vision and build the scalable core platform for AI.
As a Senior AI Engineer, you will design and deliver cutting-edge GenAI applications that enhance the client experience and drive business value. A special emphasis of this role is on site reliability, monitoring, observability, and operations to ensure that the systems you build are robust, reliable, and maintain high performance for mission-critical AI applications.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and deliver GenAI applications that elevate the client experience.
Champion reliability, monitoring, observability, and operational best practices for AI systems and data pipelines.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (architects, engineers, business leaders) to align solutions with enterprise strategy.
Mentor and coach junior engineers, fostering strong engineering practices.
Lead in solving complex technical challenges and drive rapid iteration from concept to production.
Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and incident response frameworks to ensure system health.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
8+ years of software development experience, with 4+ years as a hands-on senior engineer.
5+ years of experience building complex products from scratch and running them in production with operational reliability.
3+ years of experience building applications that leverage AI models for measurable business impact.
3+ years of experience developing applications and data pipelines that interface with large datasets.
3+ years of experience with containers, cloud-native applications, and infrastructure as code.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with proprietary or open-source LLMs (e.g., Gemini, Claude, OpenAI) and deploying LLM-powered applications to production.
Experience writing and running evaluations for the quality and consistency of LLM-generated output.
Strong communication skills and experience mentoring junior engineers.
A mindset of continuous learning and improvement.
Experience with Python and front-end development is preferred but not required.
A Master’s or advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field.
