Search Infrastructure Engineer: Zoom

As a core engineer on the team, you will be crucial in defining what AI-powered search means for enterprises. The job requires working with real-time data pipelines, vector databases, and permission-aware retrieval systems. Your work will directly impact enterprise search, AI assistants, and knowledge discovery, ensuring the system is highly reliable, fast, and scalable.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Implementation: Design and implement a scalable RAG system for real-time Q&A across various internal content sources (meetings, documents, videos, etc.).

Ingestion Pipelines: Build robust ingestion and indexing pipelines for semi-structured data, ensuring fine-grained, permission-aware access control.

Backend Development: Develop APIs and backend systems for efficient data querying, retrieval, and ranking.

Collaboration: Work closely with machine learning and natural language processing (ML/NLP) engineers to improve search quality and iterate on embedding models.

Performance: Monitor system performance and optimize for low-latency, high-throughput workloads.

Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: You should have at least 4+ years of experience in backend or distributed systems engineering.

Technical Knowledge:

Experience designing and operating large-scale data ingestion pipelines using tools like message queues, vector stores, and Elasticsearch.

A proven track record of building highly available, multi-tenant backend services.

Experience with cloud-native tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.

Familiarity with document-level permission modeling and secure data handling.

Experience integrating with SaaS platforms like Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 is also needed.

Bonus Skills: Experience with the programming language Go is a bonus.

Mindset: A strong productivity mindset with experience effectively using AI tools.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: The salary ranges from $197,000 to $431,000.

Total Compensation: In addition to the base salary, Zoom's total compensation philosophy includes a bonus and equity value.

Work Style: This is a hybrid role, centered around the office in Seattle, Washington
