Research Software Development Engineer: Microsoft (Microsoft Research India)

Microsoft Research India (MSR India) is seeking research engineers to join a leading lab that advances innovation in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning, Theory, Technology & Empowerment, and Systems. Established two decades ago, the lab hosts interdisciplinary projects spanning natural language processing, information retrieval, and systems.

Candidates will work on new models, scalable ML architectures, systems support for workloads, and innovative large-scale applications of ML models.

Responsibilities
Engineering & Coding: Demonstrate strong coding skills to build quality solutions.

Problem Solving: Tackle open problems, new technologies, and changing requirements with flexibility.

Collaboration: Work closely with researchers, engineers, and internal/external partners.

Lifecycle Management: Drive end-to-end research and development, from ideation to deployment.

Mentorship: Receive mentoring while also having the opportunity to mentor and lead interns and other team members.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or related disciplines.

Experience: Minimum 5 years of industry work experience with a proven track record of innovation and delivering impactful solutions.

Skills: Strong programming and communication skills with the ability to drive end-to-end R&D.

Preferred Qualifications
AI/ML Knowledge: Good understanding of deep learning, LLMs, and large-scale ML systems.

Tech Stack: Proficiency in Python and PyTorch, and familiarity with CUDA and cutting-edge agentic frameworks.

Model Lifecycle: Experience in data preparation, pre-training, post-training, and evaluation for ML models.
