Role Overview
Microsoft Research (MSR) is seeking a PhD-level intern to join their team in Redmond. This role focuses on the intersection of Large Language Models (LLMs) and Data Engineering. You will collaborate with world-class researchers to advance the state of the art in using LLMs for data collection, cleaning, transformation, and fusion. This is a hands-on research position where you are expected to put theory into practice, contributing to both technical reports and academic publications.
Key Responsibilities
Core Research: Conduct research specifically focused on LLMs and their application to data collection, cleaning, transformation, and fusion.
Experimentation: Design and implement experiments, prototypes, or simulations to test new hypotheses.
Analysis & Publication: Analyze research results and contribute to technical reports or academic publications.
Collaboration: Work closely with mentors and other doctoral candidates to achieve project goals and present findings to the MSR community.
Qualifications
Required:
Education: Must be currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Location: Must be physically located in the managerβs Microsoft worksite (Redmond, WA) for the duration of the internship.
Preferred:
Technical Stack: Proficiency in Python, C++, or similar languages.
Domain Knowledge: Background in Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), or Databases.
Specific Tools: Experience with commercial or open-source LLMs and SQL.
Research Record: Prior research experience demonstrated through publications or projects.
Compensation & Logistics
Base Pay: $6,710 - $13,270 per month.
Note: If the role were located in the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City, the range would be $8,760 - $14,360 per month.
Duration: Typically 12 weeks, usually beginning in the summer, though internships are offered year-round.
