Research Editor

Governance.ai (GovAI) is a leading AI governance research organization. Its researchers publish in top venues like Science and Nature and work closely with decision-makers in government, industry, and civil society. GovAI has helped shape the field of AI governance and has a strong alumni network in influential roles at leading AI companies (DeepMind, OpenAI), governments (US, UK, EU), and universities.

Responsibilities:
The core responsibility is to increase the quality, volume, and impact of GovAI's research by overseeing the entire publication pipeline.

Work with the Director of Policy and Research to scope and frame research reports.

Provide substantive feedback on research projects and edit all GovAI reports and analyses.

Track publications in the pipeline to ensure they progress efficiently.

Develop and refine publication processes and editorial standards, including coordinating with external copy-editors and peer reviewers.

Potential additional duties: Draft blog posts and op-eds, contribute to research planning, support junior researchers, and collaborate on dissemination strategies.

Requirements (Selection Criteria):

Excitement for the mission to positively influence the lasting impact of AI.

Strong writing and communication skills; professional editing experience is highly valued but not required.

Ability to provide meaningful feedback on both stylistic and substantive aspects of research. Knowledge of AI governance is a strong plus.

Organized and systematic, with the ability to manage multiple projects and maintain quality under tight deadlines.

Ability to engage effectively with researchers and external stakeholders.
