Microsoft Research Asia – Vancouver Lab is seeking a Principal Researcher for its Cloud and AI Infrastructure team. The lab's mission is to bridge the gap between cutting-edge general AI and specialized, real-world applications. This role is for a highly skilled researcher with an interest in advancing cloud and AI infrastructure and chip design using AI technologies. The work involves a deep integration of intelligent systems across every layer of computing to solve complex, real-world problems with precision, scalability, and cost-efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Research and Analysis: Investigate and analyze emerging hardware technologies, trends, and advancements.
Design and Optimization: Design and optimize hardware components, systems, and architectures to enhance performance, reliability, and efficiency.
Validation: Conduct simulations, tests, and validations to ensure hardware designs meet required specifications.
Prototyping: Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept models to demonstrate new hardware technologies.
Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including software researchers, designers, and engineers, to identify hardware requirements and develop innovative solutions.
Vendor Partnership: Partner with manufacturing vendors and production teams to transition new designs into deployable systems.
Documentation: Document research findings, design decisions, and technical specifications for knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience: A doctorate in a relevant field with 3+ years of related research experience, or equivalent professional experience.
Specific Experience: 3+ years of experience in research related to infrastructure design, computer architecture, or artificial intelligence.
Preferred Qualifications
A doctorate in a relevant field with 5+ years of related research experience.
Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor.
Experience participating in a top conference in a relevant research domain.
Experience in optimizing or designing hardware components and architectures.
