Coinbase, a company with the mission to increase economic freedom in the world, is hiring a Machine Learning Engineer to join its AI Platform team. This dynamic and ambitious group is focused on building centralized AI infrastructure and acceleration solutions that drive productivity, innovation, and customer impact across the organization.
As a Machine Learning Engineer on this team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI-powered interactions at Coinbase. You will leverage cutting-edge AI models, frameworks, and diverse data sources—including blockchain data—to enhance features like recommendations and chatbots, making crypto more intuitive, accessible, and user-friendly. While this is a remote-first role, it requires in-person participation for team and company-wide offsites throughout the year.
Key Responsibilities:
Apply advanced machine learning techniques, including large language models (LLMs), deep learning, and graph neural networks, to solve complex challenges.
Develop high-quality, well-tested Python code to address critical product and business needs.
Design scalable and secure systems using state-of-the-art AI/ML technologies and industry best practices.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues to improve system reliability and operational efficiency.
Excel at project execution by managing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
Ensure the architectural integrity of feature designs through thorough reviews across teams.
Required Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in machine learning and software engineering.
Proven expertise in building, scaling, and maintaining production services with a strong focus on data processing, machine learning, or analytics.
Hands-on experience with at least one ML model type, such as LLMs, Graph Neural Networks (GNNs), Deep Learning, or Gradient Boosting Trees.
Proficiency in one or more areas, including data mining, information retrieval, advanced statistics, Natural Language Processing (NLP), or computer vision.
A passion for building an open financial system that connects the world.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related technical field.
Proficiency with GenAI frameworks and tools like Apache Airflow, Spark, Flink, Snowflake, and Databricks.
Familiarity with model interpretability and responsible AI practices.
