Deadline: Jan 18, 2026
Experience: Senior
Continent: North America
Salary: £71,000 – £93,000 (~$95,000 – $125,000 USD)
Role Overview
GovAI is seeking a strategic leader to bridge the gap between AI governance research and real-world impact. You will be responsible for transforming the new London office into a global "central node" for AI policy and research. Your primary goal is to leverage GovAI's significant human capital—including alumni at OpenAI, DeepMind, Anthropic, and various world governments—into a cohesive, high-bandwidth professional network.
Core Responsibilities
Physical Hub Management: Curate the London office environment to facilitate both "high-bandwidth" formal collaboration and informal coworking for researchers and practitioners.
Alumni & Affiliate Network: Design value propositions for GovAI affiliates and maintain lifelong professional connections with former seasonal fellows.
Strategic Programming: Execute events ranging from 10 to 100 people, specifically designed for research dissemination and stakeholder engagement.
Team Leadership: Manage the Office Manager and potentially hire/supervise an Events Manager as the community grows.
Selection Criteria
Relationship Architect: You should genuinely enjoy "connecting the dots" between people and possess the intuition to know what makes a professional network valuable.
Ecosystem Knowledge: Familiarity with key actors in AI governance (policy makers, technical researchers, and regulatory bodies) is highly preferred.
Communication: Ability to represent GovAI to diverse audiences, from junior fellowship applicants to high-ranking government officials.
Operational Proactivity: Comfort with building systems from scratch in an environment that often navigates ambiguity.
Workforce & Community Context
GovAI is a specialized non-profit that sits at the intersection of effective altruism, academic research, and tech policy.
Community Demographics & Reach:
Alumni Placement: GovAI alumni hold influential positions in the US, UK, and EU governments, as well as frontier AI labs (DeepMind, OpenAI, Anthropic) and top universities (Oxford, Cambridge).
Expertise Breadth: The community covers high-stakes domains including US-China relations, frontier AI regulation, AI forecasting, and threat modeling.
Global Presence: While headquartered in the UK, the team maintains an active presence in the US and EU, creating a "transatlantic" bridge for AI policy.
Benefits
Visa Sponsorship: GovAI is able to sponsor UK visas for international candidates.
Retirement: 10% pension/401k contribution.
Healthcare: Private medical cover.
Autonomy: Significant independence to design and iterate on community programs.
