Employment Counsel: Anthropic

Anthropic is an AI research and deployment company with a mission to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems that are safe and beneficial for society. They are seeking an exceptional Employment Counsel to partner closely with their People team and other stakeholders. The role involves building and managing employment programs that enable high performers to achieve their best work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
Advise the People team and managers on a wide range of U.S. legal matters, including compensation, benefits, performance management, and leaves of absence.

Implement and manage compliant employment programs that align with Anthropic’s values.

Craft clear written guidance, policies, and communications that translate complex employment law concepts for non-lawyers.

Proactively identify and mitigate employment-related legal risks.

Manage relationships with outside counsel as needed.

Stay up-to-date on relevant employment laws and their implications for the business.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:

A JD from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California or New York preferred).

At least 8 years of practicing employment law, with a combination of experience at a global-focused law firm and in-house.

Operates with humility, integrity, and sound judgment.

Strategic, flexible, resourceful, and solution-oriented.

Strong organizational, project management, analytical, and writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a tech company or another fast-paced environment.

Experience advising on international employment legal matters.
