Classic Vacations is seeking a Data Platform & AI Enablement Engineer to lead the transformation of its digital backbone. This strategic role is responsible for stabilizing critical data flows, modernizing the data architecture, and enabling scalable, AI-powered systems for both internal and external customers. The engineer will be an "architect of possibility," empowering decision-making across the company, eliminating inefficiencies, and laying the groundwork for robust, ethical AI and machine learning pipelines.
Responsibilities
The role is structured in three phases:
Phase 1: Stabilize and Maintain Todayβs Ecosystem
Administer and tune Microsoft SQL Server environments.
Manage Tableau Server/Cloud, ensuring reliable dashboards and permissions.
Monitor and support reports for Finance, Product, and CX with data quality checks.
Phase 2: Modernize the Platform
Design schemas in Amazon Redshift or Google BigQuery for cloud scalability.
Build, test, and document dbt pipelines managed with Terraform and Git-based CI/CD.
Replace manual data feeds with validated ingestion pipelines using tools like Great Expectations.
Phase 3: Enable AI at Scale
Stand up streaming architectures (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis) and manage ML feature stores.
Embed analytics into customer-facing applications via APIs.
Implement data observability solutions (e.g., Monte Carlo, Metaplane) to uphold data trust.
Requirements
Required Technical Experience:
A minimum of 5 years managing Microsoft SQL Server environments with expertise in performance tuning and production support.
At least 3 years of experience administering Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud, including Tableau Prep and Hyper extract pipelines.
Required Data Engineering Skills:
Strong proficiency in Python and modern SQL.
Disciplined use of Git workflows for code management.
Hands-on experience with cloud data services in AWS or GCP (e.g., Redshift, BigQuery, S3).
Production-level experience with dbt (data build tool), Terraform, and automated data validation frameworks like Great Expectations.
Required Platform & Infrastructure Expertise:
A solid understanding of CI/CD principles, infrastructure-as-code, and scalable data platform design.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience optimizing Tableau performance.
Experience implementing embedded analytics with row-level security.
Experimentation with modern AI data patterns such as vector stores or RAG for LLM applications.
