This role is part of the Health Futures UK team, which focuses on the intersection of machine learning, healthcare, and life sciences. The researcher will join one of two main pillars:
Medical Imaging: Focused on inverse problems and image interpretation via deep learning.
Multimodal Computational Biology: Focused on scientific discovery.
Responsibilities
Design, implement, and evaluate new machine learning methods and models.
Publish research in top-tier venues or contribute to open-source projects.
Collaborate with clinical experts and multidisciplinary teams across Microsoft Research.
Develop an ambitious research agenda aligned with the teamβs goals in health and life sciences.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum:
PhD degree (completed or on-track) or equivalent expertise in independent research in Computer Science (ML, Deep Learning, Signal Processing), Computational Biology, or Medicine.
Proficiency with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch) and software engineering tools (e.g., git).
A demonstrated passion for healthcare or life sciences research.
Preferred/Additional:
Expertise in multimodal and large-scale deep learning (design, training, and evaluation).
Experience handling real-world healthcare or life-sciences data.
Specific expertise in Medical Imaging (especially MRI) or Computational Biology (Digital pathology, transcriptomics, single-cell technology).
Knowledge of interpretability methods (mechanistic interpretability, explainable AI).
A track record of publications in conferences such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR, ML4H, MICCAI, or journals like Nature Medicine.
