Backend Software Engineer - B2B Applications: OpenAI

Role Overview
OpenAI is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the B2B Organization. This team is responsible for the "business engine" of the company, building the infrastructure that powers the OpenAI API and Enterprise products.

In this role, you will move beyond standard CRUD applications to architect large-scale distributed systems capable of handling billions of requests and petabytes of data. You will bridge the gap between cutting-edge research models and stable, production-grade tools used by millions of developers and companies worldwide.

Key Responsibilities
System Architecture: Design and scale the services and infrastructure that power OpenAI's commercial applications.

End-to-End Ownership: Manage the full lifecycle of new platform capabilities, from integration to deployment.

Research Collaboration: Work directly with the research team to translate the next generation of AI models into usable B2B products.

Reliability: Ensure safety, performance, and compliance at a global scale.

Qualifications
Experience: 5+ years of professional engineering experience (internships excluded).

Background: Experience as a former founder or early startup engineer is considered a major plus.

Technical Stack: Proficiency in backend languages such as Python, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.

Scale: Proven ability to build infrastructure supporting massive throughput (billions of requests).

Soft Skills: Ability to navigate undefined tasks and manage competing priorities in a fast-growth environment.
