Artificial Intelligence Engineering Lead at Google

This Artificial Intelligence Engineering Lead role is with the Google Research team, which builds the next generation of intelligent systems for all Google products.

You will be the expert on the latest AI models and standards, ensuring your teams have access to cutting-edge technology. You will be a hands-on leader, showing the teams how to build workflows using foundation models, fine-tuned models, context engineering, and memory systems. Your role is critical to turning concepts into functional prototypes within days by providing the necessary AI techniques, backend code, and infrastructure.

Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain a library of APIs and the latest AI models from Google DeepMind and the ecosystem.

Build workflows using context engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and fine-tuning layers.

Serve as the AI engineering lead for the pods, providing the techniques and infrastructure to turn concepts into functional prototypes rapidly.

Own the operational backbone of the prototyping work, including managing Google Cloud capacity, setting up CI/CD systems, and architecting data repositories.

Advocate for engineering best practices in a fast-changing coding environment.

Stay at the forefront of AI research, evaluating and integrating emerging models, tools, and standards like Google's Agent Developer Kit (ADK) and Model Communication Protocol (MCP).

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

8 years of experience in software development.

5 years of experience in testing and launching software products.

3 years of experience with software design and architecture.

Preferred Qualifications:

10 years of experience in software development.

1 year of experience in building with Generative AI models.

Experience designing, building, and scaling RESTful APIs and backend services on cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud).

Experience with modern AI-assisted coding tools (e.g., Gemini CLI, Claude Code).

Experience with emerging agentic AI frameworks and protocols (e.g., Google ADK, MCP, LangChain).

Ability to prototype and iterate, translating ideas from concept to a functional prototype.
