Applied Research Lead, Generative Audio at Runway

Runway is focused on building World Models and general-purpose simulation to advance AI frontiers. This role is for a Research Team Lead who will manage and inspire a group within the Applied ML Research team, driving the execution of new applied research projects, specifically in the domain of Generative Audio.

This is a cross-functional role emphasizing leadership, communication, and collaboration, as you will oversee the transition of research into production systems and work with the Product team to deliver user value.

Key Responsibilities
Research Leadership: Lead and drive the execution of new applied research projects within the team.

Mentorship & Management: Mentor other researchers, communicate goals effectively, and inspire the team.

Strategy Translation: Translate product and business objectives into clear technical strategies.

Production: Maintain a deep interest and involvement in productionizing state-of-the-art ML research.

Collaboration: Work with the engineering organization to manage the research-to-production pipeline and collaborate with the Product team on new projects.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Experience: 4+ years of industry experience as a research scientist in multimodal, generative audio, with proven experience leading projects.

Technical Background: Strong research background in computer vision (required based on application question).

Leadership Skills: High emotional intelligence, experience mentoring researchers, and ability to communicate goals and drive execution.

Business Acumen: Experience translating product and business objectives into technical strategies.

Deep Interest: Deep interest in productionizing state-of-the-art ML research.
