The County of Santa Barbara’s Information Technology Department (ITD) is seeking a forward-thinking professional to lead the County's efforts in responsibly adopting and integrating artificial intelligence. This strategic, high-impact role will serve as the primary point of contact for all AI initiatives, guiding the implementation of AI tools to improve efficiency, service delivery, and decision-making across various County departments.

Important Notes:

Employees of the County must reside in California.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship; applicants must have permanent work authorization in the United States.

Responsibilities:

Identify, research, assess, and recommend AI use cases, tools, and technologies for County operations.

Serve as the primary point of contact for defining and establishing AI-driven workflows.

Guide and support the implementation and integration of AI solutions with existing systems.

Develop and maintain a countywide inventory of AI tools, pilots, and deployments.

Provide guidance on AI strategies to IT leadership, ensuring alignment with County goals and legal requirements.

Assist in developing and implementing AI training programs for staff.

Support the establishment of governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with data privacy, and ethical standards.

Participate as a member of the Countywide AI Steering Committee.

Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a field related to Artificial Intelligence, IT business systems, or a related area.

Four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience in a role involving planning, analysis, and coordination, such as an IT Business Analyst or IT Project Manager. This experience should include managing relationships between IT and business stakeholders and aligning IT solutions with business needs.
