Max AI, Inc. is a company that has developed a "human-free, fully-autonomous medical billing AI agent" and is looking for a hands-on AI Engineer. This role is central to improving the company's AI agents and machine learning models in the Natural Language Processing (NLP) domain. The primary goal is to enhance the accuracy of medical coding and billing, which is part of a larger process known as revenue cycle management (RCM).
Medical billing involves the complex process of reviewing patient records to determine which services are billable and to whom they are billed (patient or insurance). Revenue cycle management is an even broader financial process that encompasses the entire lifecycle of a patient's account, from registration and insurance verification to claims submission, payment, and collections.
As an AI Engineer, you will work in a small, high-impact team, taking on complete product ownership and collaborating directly with customers and the operations team.
Key Responsibilities
Build and Evaluate AI: Design, experiment with, and evaluate AI agents and ML models in the NLP domain to improve medical coding, billing, and other aspects of revenue cycle management.
Framework Development: Contribute to building internal AI frameworks that enable the creation of the company's AI agents and ML models.
Collaboration: Work closely with a small team and engage directly with customers and the operations team to drive product improvements.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience:
6+ years of experience in ML/AI/data science in a production setting.
Expertise in AI/ML, specifically in NLP (including pre-processing, embeddings, and transformer-based models).
Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs), including supervised fine-tuning and model evaluation.
Technical Skills:
Well-versed in using ML/NLP Python packages such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and the Hugging Face transformers library.
Work Ethic: A proactive mindset, a commitment to continuous learning, and strong communication skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience working at high-growth startups.
Exposure to highly regulated industries and/or healthcare.
Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
