AI Educator: University of South Carolina (USC)

This pivotal role within the Division of Information Technology focuses on leading AI innovation and literacy across USC, the first university in the state with Enterprise ChatGPT licensing. The role requires a blend of technical expertise and a "teacher's heart" to create and deliver hands-on training and consulting for faculty, staff, and students on AI tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot.

Essential Job Duties
The role is divided into four main functional areas:

Curriculum Development (25%): Design, develop, and continuously update instructional materials and curricula covering AI fundamentals, machine learning concepts, prompt engineering, and chatbot/agent development.

Teaching and Training (25%): Deliver educational sessions to build AI fluency. This includes practical training on generative AI tools, instructing on ethical and responsible AI use, and teaching learners how to critically evaluate AI outputs.

Agent Development (25%): Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements for simple AI agents/chatbots. This involves developing dialog flows, integrating with appropriate AI platforms, and optimizing performance based on user feedback.

Evaluation and Continuous Improvement (20%): Establish methods to evaluate the effectiveness of AI educational initiatives and continuously update personal knowledge of AI and pedagogy to integrate new tools and guidelines.

Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required Education/Experience: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field and 4 or more years of job-related experience (or an equivalent combination).

Preferred Education: A Master’s degree in Educational Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Instructional Design, or a related field.

Key Knowledge/Skills: Strong understanding of AI and Prompt Engineering Knowledge (fundamentals, prompt engineering, AI agent development). Experience in Curriculum Design & Teaching. Technical proficiency in using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) and strong communication skills.
