In a frenzy of spending that rivals the industrialization of the electric grid, the world’s largest technology companies are pouring hundreds of billions of dollars into a new class of infrastructure, betting the farm that the demand for AI compute is only just beginning.
From OpenAI’s localized "Stargate" megaprojects to Nvidia’s holiday acquisition shocker, the final quarter of 2025 has solidified a new reality: the race for AI dominance is no longer about software—it is about steel, silicon, and gigawatts.
The $400 Billion Ante
According to new year-end figures, the "Hyperscalers"—Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta—have collectively committed nearly $400 billion in capital expenditure (CapEx) for 2025 alone, with the vast majority earmarked for AI infrastructure.
Amazon: Leading the pack with a staggering $100 billion projected spend, aggressively building out its AWS "UltraServer" capacity.

"Project Stargate" Expands
The symbol of this new industrial age is "Project Stargate," the massive $500 billion infrastructure initiative spearheaded by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle. Originally announced in January 2025, the project has accelerated significantly in recent months.
Just this week, the consortium confirmed five new data center sites across the U.S., including massive facilities in Texas and New Mexico. These are not standard server farms; they are "AI power plants" designed to consume gigawatts of electricity—enough to power entire cities—solely to train the next generation of frontier models (GPT-6 and beyond).
